Description
I've been described as a inspirational, quirky, motivational Disabled woman. I work as an Advocate for disabled people, as well as being a Disabled single parent. Previously I’ve been a Disabled Dance Artist working extensively in the British contemporary dance and physical theatre scene, as a performer, filmmaker, teacher, and consultant have developed a reputation for depth, intelligence and physical courage in my work.
I need a Female Personal Assistant who is able to appreciate the challenges that family and life brings. And someone that has good common sense, a good sense of humor, and is open to learn.
Personal Assistant Requirements
I prefer to use the term Personal Assistant (P.A.) as it is a more positive professional title compared to the terms Support Worker, Enabler and Carer. These terms tend to have connotations of someone being looked after rather than someone assisting people to have an autonomous lifestyle. I believe using the term P.A. is more respectful and is a more empowering term in relation to disabled people and PAs as it recognizes the role of P.A. as a professional career choice.
The main role of a P.A. is to assist with any domestic, personal or work related task. As the tasks can vary enormously depending on the assistance I need at the time, it is difficult to give a comprehensive list of the jobs that might be required of a P.A. However, some might include providing personal and domestic assistance within the home, assistance with leisure and social activities or assistance in the workplace during the course of a normal working day.
A good P.A. is flexible, honest, loyal, punctual, reliable, respectful and discrete. They give ‘invisible’ support and listen without trying to take control of situations. A P.A. has good communication and interpersonal skills and should be able to cope with a variety of situations, keep calm under pressure, have a good sense of humor and know when to step back.
I believe in treating PA’s with respect and dignity, and recognize the role as a professional one. I appreciate the hard work, skills and ability of a good P.A. and this often leads to forming strong professional and personal friendships.
