Art Logistics (Handler & Packer)

Alverston Fine Arts & Vanburgh West Antiques are based in the Portobello area of West London. We deal in contempory works by exciting artists, and classical antiques.

This role’s main responsibility is to safely pack, handle, and transport antiques and artworks of a variety of sizes and weights, to the highest professional standard. Other responsibilities include maintaining detailed records of shipments to clients, organising and safely storing artworks/antiques in storage facilities, as well as receiving deliveries of artworks/antiques and installing these works in the gallery.

Job Requirements

  • Experience carrying, loading, and unloading large/heavy art works, antiques, and other arts-related high-value objects.
  • Experience packing fragile artwork and antiques to a high professional standard for international export or domestic delivery.
  • Experience in stock management of not only artworks but packing materials. - Strong attention to detail and organisational skills are essential. - Some experience working in a similar role.

Job Responsibilities

  • Carrying and loading large/heavy art works and antiques.
  • Packing fragile artwork/antiques for domestic and international shipment.
  • Keeping a detailed record of all items that have been packed and shipped.
  • Receiving artwork/antiques deliveries and unpacking them correctly and safely.
  • Safety storing all artworks and antiques, ensuring all items are correctly organised and labelled.
  • Taking high quality photographs of antiques and artworks for websites and social media.
  • Occasionally delivering artworks/antiques to client homes or offices with great care and professionalism.
  • Monitoring stock levels of packing material and taking action when new orders will need to be made.
  • Maintaining a professional demeanor in the presence of visitors and clients is crucial.

This is a great environment to work in if you enjoy interacting with the colourful characters of Notting Hill and are interested in contempory arts.

The role is 3 days a week. Weekdays can change as well as involve some weekends, but we appreciate these need to work for both parties.

Salary: 20-25k (pro-rata) plus generous benefits
